Jennifer Nace never dreamed of owning a photography studio but after buying a digital camera to take pictures of her children, destiny stepped in.

Jennifer Nace Photography’s business logo and studio are artsy and cool – just like Jennifer. In addition, the images she takes reveal her creativity and a gift for capturing the perfect moment. However, family is what’s really important to this photographer and the reason that she offers custom, one-on-one service at her Waseca, Minnesota, studio location.

Three years ago, Jennifer purchased a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera so she could take quality pictures of her husband Jamie and their two sons, Aidan, 5, and Ashton, 3. Soon friends were asking her to photograph their babies and Jennifer began designing birth announcements. Word spread and before long Jennifer recognized a need in the community for a photographer. With the help of her family, she opened a studio.

“It all happened within a six-month period. I started a studio in a small commercial building and a year later, we found our current studio location,” Jennifer says. “It really feels like everything fell into place like it was meant to be.”

Jennifer specializes in (and loves) taking pictures of babies, kids and seniors – she also takes family portraits and does a limited number of weddings. “For kids, my main goal is to capture their personality, not just what they look like. For families, I love to capture the relationship – like the spontaneous look a baby gives her mom,” Jennifer says. “And, for high school seniors, I just like making them feel beautiful.”

There are some special moments that help Jennifer realize the importance of her job. “At one wedding, I took some images of the flower girl with her mom. I found out recently that the mom had passed away from cancer and how much they now treasure the photos I took,” she says. “Life is fragile and you never know what’s going to happen. That’s one reason I love my job.”

As a mother of two, Jennifer balances time in her studio with her priority: spending time with her family. “This is the only thing that I could do that I am willing to sacrifice some time away from our boys.” She takes comfort in knowing that she is doing something important. “The string of events in my life that lead me to this makes me feel like this is what I am meant to do,” Jennifer says. She puts her heart and soul into the images she takes. Jennifer Nace Photography offers more than pictures – she turns memories into true works of art.
