Swiss Burgers for a Crowd

by on in Blog

On Sunday I volunteered to serve dinner for the youth group. They meet each Wednesday evening and people in our church take turns bringing a meal for them. After I raised my hand and said Mark and I would take Wednesday’s meal, I turned to the ladies at the table where we were having coffee and asked them exactly what bringing Wednesday’s supper entailed. It was then I learned we would be feeding 50 people!

On Thanksgiving we had nearly 40 people at our home and they went through three turkeys and one ham! So what can we make that will serve 50 hungry youth and church goers?!?

The answer came to us on our drive home. We would make my sister-in-law Jeanne’s Swiss Burgers. We served them at our son Tyler’s graduation from high school and they were a hit, and the best part – they are so simple to make.

At the grocery store I purchased 15 pounds of hamburger, 72 buns and a few more ingredients we’d be needing along with 8 or 10 bags of chips. At the check out I got a questioning look and I just told him, “We have a BIG family!”

We made up the huge batch of Swiss Burgers last night and they smelled so very good. I think the kids will enjoy them and Jeanne allowed me to share her recipe with you.

Here is one recipe for delicious Swiss Burgers.

3 lbs hamburger
1 c Ketchup
1 Tb Worcestershire sauce
1 Tb salt
8 oz tomato sauce
8 oz water
1 c chopped onions
1 Tb pepper

Mix raw and simmer until ready. If you want to get adventurous we added ceyenne pepper and a little brown sugar.

I recommend this!
